Natasha Elsa Diaz began studying dance at the age of four. Her mother Portia Peters, one of the founding members of 'Cheryl Byron & Something Positive', helped to develop her skill in Caribbean Folk and West African dance. After intense studying and performing with Something Positive from 1986-1996, Natasha enrolled in LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts. There she had the privilege of studying both voice and dance with a number of well renowned artist such as Louis Johnson, Carol Lonnie of Charles Moore Dance Company, Anthony "Ant Boogie" Rue III, etc. During her senior year, she worked as a backup dancer for RCA and Jive Records recording artists. In 2000, MTV rendered her services for a number of their programs, i.e. Global Groove, Hip Hop Week. She graduated and began touring with Bishop Nathaniel Townsley Jr. & The Gospel Jubilee throughout Europe & across the eastern US for two years. Shortly after in 2002, Trinidad's Tunapuna girls RC School hired her to teach dance as a cultural exchange program. Returning home in 2004, she enrolled in college pursuing a degree in education and psychology. Natasha was hired by Sesame Flyers International as a teacher/performer, teaching primarily Caribbean Folk, African & Hip-Hop to children ages five through seventeen. In 2005, she worked with the YMCA as a dance instructor at John Jay High School, coordinating the first performing arts showcase in the school’s history. The Executive Director of Asase Yaa African American Dance Theater invited her to perform and become an integral member of the company in 2006. Her talent brought her to Harlem where she taught West African dance with Forces of Nature for a year. Natasha is currently a principle dancer in Asase Yaa African American Dance Theater and teaching at Sesame Flyers International. The mission is to keep the history and art of the Caribbean culture alive.
